  • November 2025: A king pile is pulled from the western side of the cofferdam. It will be reinstalled on the eastern side to shift the enclosed area toward Manhattan.
  • October 2025: The Tonnelle Avenue bridge is almost finished. The team is building the eastern bridge deck and there is clearance below the highway for the tunnel boring machines.
  • October 2025: The Hudson River Ground Stabilization team has finished mixing 378 primary columns and 309 secondary columns of reinforced earth in the riverbed.
  • October 2025: The HYCC-3 team completed the first major concrete pour of the project, pouring 4,500 cubic yards of concrete to form the tunnel box.
  • October 2025: Ten of the 42 panels that will make up the slurry wall of the Hudson County Access Shaft have been completed.
  • October 2025: Work to get ready for underground construction is ongoing on both sides of 12th Avenue – and in the river.
  • September 2025: The Tonnelle Avenue Project will be finished soon, clearing the way for the first set of tunnel boring machines to be brought to the launch point in New Jersey.
  • September 2025: The cofferdam containing the Hudson River Ground Stabilization Project work area is moving closer to Manhattan as the team makes progress on stabilizing the riverbed.
  • September 2025: The HYCC-3 team installed liner wall inside the trench and prepared to pour concrete to form the floor of the tunnel box.
  • September 2025: The noise barrier around the Hudson County Access Shaft construction site is now in place.
  • September 2025: The 12th Avenue Access Shaft is taking shape in Manhattan. This 130-foot-wide, 80-foot-deep shaft will enable underground construction beneath 12th Avenue and W. 30th Street.
  • August 2025: For the first time ever, you can see daylight under Tonnelle Avenue. The first construction package of the Hudson Tunnel Project is almost done!
  • August 2025: The HRGS team started work removing the submerged remains of Pier 68 to clear the path for the tunnel boring machines. 
  • August 2025: The HYCC-3 team installs struts, tiebacks, and walers to hold up the walls of the trench during excavation and tunnel box construction.
  • August 2025: We installed a barrier along the edge of the Hudson County Shaft construction site to reduce noise from the work site.

  • July 2025: Traffic on Tonnelle Avenue was shifted onto the newly-built middle section of the bridge. This marked the transition into the final phase of this project.
  • July 2025: The team started shifting the cofferdam east so stabilization can proceed on a new section of the riverbed. Deep Soil Mixing continues inside the cofferdam.

  • June 2025: The Hudson County Shaft has started to take shape. This shaft that will be used to replace the tunnel boring machines that dig the New Jersey section of the tunnel with the machines that will dig under the Hudson River.
  • June 2025: Construction of the Manhattan Tunnel Project kicked off with the demolition of existing structures and removal of underground obstructions at the work site.
  • June 2025: The team working on the Palisades Tunnel Project built a massive access ramp to enable support of excavation work around the tunnel boring machine launch point.
  • May 2025: Crews relocated the gas main that runs beside Tonnelle Avenue, enabling the final stage of bridge construction to begin.
  • May 2025: The team reached the halfway point of the HYCC-3 project on schedule. More than 400,000 tons of soil and 1 million gallons of water have been removed.
  • May 2025: Work on the Manhattan Tunnel Project has started. Investigatory geotechnical boring is in progress to collect data on soil and rock conditions before construction of the 12th Avenue shaft begins.

  • February 2025: The team drives the last of 337 secant piles to hold up the sides of the trench where the HYCC-3 tunnel box will be built.
  • January 2025: Stage 2 of the Tonnelle Ave. Project begins. This stage involves building the middle portion of the bridge and relocating utility lines.
  • January 2025: GDC hosted an open house in North Bergen, NJ to share information about the project with the communities where construction is happening.

  • December 2025: The Hudson River Ground Stabilization team started deep soil mixing. This will stabilize the riverbed in preparation for tunnel boring through the soft ground beneath the Hudson River.
  • July 2024: Signing ceremony at Block 675 for a Full Funding Grant Agreement (FFGA) with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), locking in $6.88 billion in Capital Investment Grant (CIG) funding and the full $16 billion needed to complete the HTP.

  • The Portal North Bridge is a swing-span bridge that causes major bottlenecks and delays when it malfunctions during opening and closing for maritime traffic. Here you can see the open bridge. By 2027, it will be replaced with a high-level fixed span bridge.
